4.0.3

Patch 4.0.3 has arrived, nothing too exciting as it is mostly made up of bug fixes and minor interface changes listed here (if your interested):

  • Added pets to the new raid unit frames when displayed in party.
  • The default UI Scale has been altered so it will be set at a 1:1 pixel/texel ratio. This will result in a smaller UI appearance for higher resolution monitors.
  • Players may now adjust the local "Lag Tolerance" time for better precision of spell timing. This is an advanced-users-only feature found in the Interface Options (Combat) panel
This is copied from the latest patch notes, the rest of which can be found here. The first two are pretty self explanatory and the third basically means you can change the time before the global cool-down finishes where you can queue a new spell which will activate when the cool-down has finished, this is default at 400ms (i believe) which is also the maximum, if you want to you can set it to your approximate latency to improve performance, however there is no real advantage to doing this.

The other, more interesting, part of the patch is 'Elemental Invasion P4', where every couple of hours 2 cities from each faction are attacked by elemental forces and you must defend them and then enter a portal to defeat 1 of 4 bosses. This event glitches very often, but as far as i can make out it goes like this:
When the event starts the earthquakes in each of the cities get more frequent and guards start shouting for citizens to leave the city, after a few minutes everyone is called to arms to install 50 barricades in the city. Once this is complete elemental rifts will spawn in the city and you must kill 32 mobs for each one before it is stable, there are about 3 rifts per district and 7 districts over all. You must also free trapped citizens in each district before it is secure, once all 7 are secure then you may start the 2 boss encounters for that city which you can enter from portals at the front of the city or with your Dungeon Finder.
The cities which are attacked on the alliance side are Stormwind (Water and Air Elementals) and Ironforge (Fire and Earth Elementals), for the horde it is Thunder Bluff (Water and Air Elementals) and Orgrimmar (Fire and Earth Elementals). After you have killed the Elementals in each city, as mentioned before, you will have access to the 4 boss encounters which will drop one IL 251 each. This event will also give an achievement called 'Tripping the Rifts' for helping to destroy one of each of the rifts, this is a limited time event so i suggest you go get your cheeve now! ;)

WoW... and expansions

I have played wow for almost 2 years and over this time i have become quite familiar with the workings of the game, so i created this blog to share with people the knowledge that i have gathered over this time as well as give updates about whats happening in the warcraft community.

So starting out i would like to say a bit about cataclysm, the new expansion for WoW coming out on the 7th of December (as if we all didn't know already), it features a massive change in the whole world for everyone, even if you don't buy the expansion pack. Everything is going to be permanently destroyed by the dragon aspect 'Deathwing' in his rise to fame as the next big evil in the World of Warcraft. Blizzard have also taken this opportunity to implement many other changes to the classes and interface, it will make for an almost completely new looking game but also provide a better user friendly atmosphere; much to the disgust of some other players.

Some of the new changes have already been patched into the world along with patch 4.0.1 which overhauled all the classes and spells as well as all the talent trees, this presumably has already been brought in to ease players into Cataclysm and reduce the wait time on release downloading everything. The changes made in 4.0.1 are too many to list but it surely was a big step in the direction of the expansion.

This week we are due another patch, 4.0.3, sadly it's not going to be the world changing patch, it's actually a very small one featuring almost nothing to get excited about except from bug fixes (who really cares about them anyway), so its not a biggy and still we're all going to have to wait for the final cataclysm.
